3/22/65: “Lessons from an Old Pro: Astronaut John W. Young, left, gets a few pointers from veteran Alan B. Shepard Jr. in the “white room” atop the gantry at Cape Kennedy, Fla., today. Young and Virgil I. Grissom tomorrow will enter their capsule, right, for a two-man, three-orbit mission. Shepard was this nation’s first flight in space. It is the first flight for Young.”

I don’t think it is pointed out enough that Gus Grissom was the FIRST HUMAN BEING IN HISTORY to fly in space twice. People talk about how he was a Mercury astronaut, they talk about how he died, they talk about how he could have walked on the moon, but they don’t really mention that unique historical distinction of his.
