In honor of Curiosity and the enduring tradition of badass Mission-Control fashion, here’s a trifecta of classic Gene Kranz vests. Kranz’s wife made him nearly 60 vests over the course of the space program—a new one (or more than one) for each new flight. These are from Gemini 9, Apollo 13, and Apollo 17.

Bonus: Cartoonist Mike Russel drew a couple portraits of the Curiosity team in classic Mission Control getups—including Adam Steltzner in a Kranz vest.
