lightthiscandle: “Apollo 14 astronauts Edgar Mitchell (left) and mission commander Alan Shepard Jr. (right) were among spectators at the heavyweight title bout. The latter settled on a chit-chat with Sargent Shriver (center) and his wife, Eunice.” The “heavyweight title bout” mentioned here was none other than the famous Joe Frazier- Muhammad Ali match, also known as the Fight of the Century, which was held in Madison Square Garden on March 8, 1971. Part of me wonders if the real fight of the century that night was Frazier-Ali, or the fight that Shepard is clearly about to pick with Shriver.
