To be fair to Neil, he was used to almost dying. Before Gemini it was the X-15 after Gemini it was the LLRV. Near death doesn’t phase Neil. No bigs.
Neil had massive balls to be even flying the X-15. I read its operating manual (really) and it seemed incredibly difficult to control. It had three sticks! Just think, Neil and Joe Engle made flying those things look like the easiest task.
